waiting on wednesday #4

So I can honestly admit that I am a little disappointed in myself for not keeping up with this blog; I am currently jobless (due to immigration) so there was really no issues for me to keep the blog relevant. I'm going to try a lot harder, because this is something I have wanted to work on for awhile and I don't want to be one of those people who starts something and then drops it like a hot potato. What does this mean? It means that I am going to try and get a better system going so that I can go and do reviews/waiting on wednesday posts more frequently than I am. Please look forward to it!

Without further ado, my Waiting on Wednesday post for this week is Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi.

Publication date: October 31st 2017 by Razorbill
In the walled city of Kos, corrupt mages can magically call forth sin from a sinner in the form of sin-beasts - lethal creatures spawned from feelings of guilt.
Taj is the most talented of the aki, young sin-eaters indentured by the mages to slay this sin-beasts. But Taj's livelihood comes at a terrible cost. When he kills a sin-beast, a tattoo of the beast appears on his skin while the guilt of committing the sin appears on his mind. Mosto aki are driven mad by the process, but 17-year-old Taj is cocky and desperate to provide for his family.
When Taj is called to eat a sin of a royal, he's suddenly thrust into the center of a dark conspiracy to destroy Kos. Now Taj must fight to save the princess that he loves - and his own life.
A gritty Nigerian-influenced fantasy.

Now, I am absolutely enamored with this book; the cover is absolutely stunning, and to me reminds of of inkblots. For those of you unsure of what an inkblot is (though I doubt that there are many people who don't) it is essentially ink on a piece of paper which you are meant to say what image you see, and dependent on your answer will give insight into your psyche/personality. In the cover you can see that the various tendrils display both animals (realistic and those of the fantasy world) that together create the face of a beast.

I also like that the guilt we feel deep inside, due to the powers of the mages, manifests itself into some sort of creature. It makes me wonder what sins produce what sin-beasts.

If you were confronted by a mage that made your guilt into a sin-beast, what do you think it would take the form of? I think for myself it would be something sly, like a fox (I was told as a child I stole bubblegum). Feel free to answer in the comments below!

As always, happy reading y'all!
